KEF R300 Loudspeakers

 The aluminium construction tangerine waveguide provides a virtual point source for high and midrange sounds, enabling this loudspeaker to present a stereo image of great width, depth and heigh, placing each musician firmly in space on the stage. 

 Measuring a diminutive 385mm high by 210mm wide and 310mm deep, the R 300 is easily placed on speaker stands in most listening environments, whilst its power handling is suitable for amplifiers in the range of 25W to 125W output power. 

 The front baffle of the R300 is very non-resonant, as can be shown by wrapping your knuckles against its surface - all you hear is a low, tight, damped thud - this allows the driver to reproduce music without unwanted colouration. There are no speaker grille fixings visible to detract from the simple, elegant design of the speaker, allowing you the listener to focus purely on it's highly accomplished musical performance.

With an efficiency of 88dB per watt, the R300 is moderately sensitive for a monitor type loudspeaker, and its eight-ohm impedance will be an easy drive for any modern valve or transistor amplifier.

Each R300 speaker is very solidly constructed and hefty at 12kg each - we recommend you couple the speaker to your chosen speaker stand top plate with three generous blobs of blu-tack. Bi-wiring or single wiring is possible via the rear panel terminal plate, and KEF have cleverly engineered a linking system between the HF+/ LF+ and HF-/ LF- terminals without need for the normal brass linking strips - instead there are two rotary controls that link red terminals and back terminals, making for a much neater and convenient installation. Good quality five-way 4mm binding posts on the rear allow for a sturdy and reliable amplifier connection. We would personally recommend Chord Odyssey 2 speaker cable as a bare minimum quality standard for this revealing loudspeaker design.

Two gorgeous real wood finishes are available (walnut and rosewood), or for the more contemporary environment, piano gloss white or gloss black are on offer - either way, coupled with a good quality pair of speaker stands (500-600mm tall would be ideal) the R300's will bring out the best in your hi-fi system.
