Hereford is home to a number of beautiful independent cafés and cuisines, all specialising within their unique niche and offering an atmosphere and taste that's completely specific to them. Being in the more traditional side of town, we're spoiled for choice when it comes to lunch or evening meals; but we've compiled a list of some of our favourites places to eat below.
Rocket Kitchen, Church Street
One of our favourite establishments can be found in Church Street by the name of Rocket Kitchen. This upbeat and lively cafe crafts it's beautiful selection of pizzas, wraps, cookies and cakes from locally sourced and organic ingredients, while much of the food is cooked fresh in front of you. Staff are chatty and pleasant and full of personality. This combination of unrelenting character, beautiful food and outstanding service make it one of our favourite places to eat and drink.
King Street Kitchen, King Street
Our next-door neighbours at King Street Kitchen (formerly known as Andy’s Kitchen) are valued friends of HifiGear and are quickly becoming a known name within the hifi industry, with many of our suppliers opting to eat and drink there when paying us a visit. Despite the fact that we eat there almost daily, it’s very difficult to become bored of King St Kitchen’s menu, as a selection of different quiches are always on offer and rotated, along with a weekly special and a vast selection of sandwiches and cakes. A perfect spot for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea.
La Madeleine, Church Street
Another gem to be found in Church Street is the elegantly presented La Madeleine, a French-inspired cafe with a few perks and characteristics that allow it to stand out in the crowd. One of La Madeleine's defining features is the beautiful bistro garden, found to the rear of the restaurant. This setting in a summer afternoon, complete with one of their delicious home-made tarts and a glass of quality wine offers itself to be a relaxing and therapeutic escape from the rest of the world. The carefully selected décor and warm lighting inside the cafe means that La Madeleine is a relaxing setting all-year-round, with a large selection of continental foods and delicacies to choose from. A wonderful place to enjoy lovely food and drink, brilliant service and a unique atmosphere.
The Orange Tree
The Orange Tree can be found directly across the road from us in King Street, in view of Hereford’s beautiful cathedral. The restaurant is situated within a grade 2 listed building, dating back to the 17th century. The Orange Tree offers an elegant and warm atmosphere, with a different angle on traditional cuisine, cooking foods from local produce while taking inspiration and influence from around the world. The food is delicious, the service is outstanding and the immediate environment is simply stunning. A definite favourite of ours and the place of choice for our Christmas meal this year.
