Getting synced with the iPod generation…

Part 2

This is part 2 of ‘getting synced with the iPod generation’. In this issue on Hifi Gear’s blog, after learning , how to get great sound from your portable Apple product we’ll be looking at how streaming has become a great feature for audio, and how your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad can do this.

Streaming is a technological term for sending information, from the internet, over your Wi-Fi network to your capable devices for viewing video, listening to music or for data services. Typical examples of streaming systems include the Sony Playstation 3, which allows for you to watch video from 4od 4 on demand, BBC iPlayer and ITV player on demand, whilst providing film services for ‘rent and watch’ capability. Specialised streaming systems can be sometimes complicated or expensive for users to use at first; especially for Hi-Fi beginners. However, luckily, the Apple devices allow for streaming capability to be easily configured and used in your TV and Stereo system, regardless of age.

Thanks to Apple’s AppStore, you can download applications, many free of charge, to start your streaming experiments off with. For free music at high-quality, ‘Spotify’ is an application that is provided by several large record labels for promotion of their records. This will download onto your Apple device for free music streaming. If you would like more radio choice and don’t fancy investing in a DAB tuner, or other streaming applications, ‘Radiobox’ is another free application which allows you to access millions of free global radio services across the internet. Already you can probably see that the iPod/iPad is so much more than just an Mp3/Mp4 player or tablet. The previously mentioned video services, such as BBC iPlayer, are also readily available too to download for free usage.

However, if you feel that you’re stuck with how to set-up a streaming services, please contact us at Hifi Gear. We have a large interest in streaming and we offer demonstrations via Sonos multi-room streaming and various other streaming systems.
