A basic overview of the M-10D

The M-10D comes with a cool feature called "Cinema Mode"; this mode will bring loads of punch into any sort of movie experience. This subwoofer is designed with a down-firing woofer. A detailed review of the M-10D

Amplifier 

The punchy integrated 300 Watt RMS Class D amplifier is a highly linear construction. This amp is designed not for only continuous power, but to also hit that peak performance for the customer, the M-10D is able to deliver a substantial 500 Watt peak power (this is very vital when it comes to both music and movie signals). The M-10D has a very low power consumption thanks to the 'Switch Mode Power Supply' - giving off only 0.4 Watts in standby mode. The amplifier displays a superb efficiency of 70%, resulting in an absolute minimum of heat loss; for this reason, you will find absolutely no heat sink on this subwoofer. The integrated limiter compares the input signal amplitude to the potential output signal level. This clever system will detect any potential problem with the limiter, it will cut the signal in a soft manner without affecting the peak power. The M-10D is fitted with controls for gain, cut-off frequency and phase, the amp is able to adapt to any front speaker and room acoustics with the choice of LFE and LINE inputs, making it accessible to almost any amplifier, receiver or processor. DALI SUB M-10 D allows you to choose between the movie and a music mode, also via the remote control. For a realistic and powerful rendering of e.g. explosions in a movie, the sound mode should be set to CINEMA, amplifying the lowest frequencies to ensure a realistic experience. For a neutral and very linear performance, the sound mode should be set to HIFI. This will ensure a precise rendering of all the details of the music while optimising the integration with your front speakers.

Active Woofer

The DALI M-10D is equipped with an active 10" down-firing woofer. The cone is made out of carbon fibre at the front with a paper pulp material at the back. This clever design will completely eliminate the need for a dust cap. The end result in this is a rigid cone with superior breakup characteristics while at the same time being very lightweight and agile. The 4-layer voice coil is mounted on an aluminium former. In order to reduce the potential micro-resonance, the inside of the former has been perfectly lined with thin paper pulp. The diameter is 63.5mm to ensure maximum handling. A two-piece ferrite magnet with a vented pole piece will ensure that the coil is kept in place with a tight grip, this is vital when it comes to cracking up the volume to a substantial amount. This is then backed up with dual spiders, situated 12mm apart, this will then give cause the behaviour of the voice coils to act very piston-like. The chassis is made from aluminium to prevent any magnetic loss. And lots of research has gone into optimising the entire construction for the lowest possible mechanical and magnetic loss, and to ensure a free airflow

Cabinet

The M-10D's cabinet is designed and constructed with a solid MDF. Due to the Sub having a solid, firing down woofer, the base of the cabinet is made of out a 25mm plywood, this will guarantee a powerful grip on the driver eliminating any loss related to the fixation of the woofer itself. The spacers are made out of solid aluminium, making the cabinet decoupled from the floor. This sub appears to be 'hovering' above the floor due to having a 45mm distance from the floor. This well-designed feature will eliminate any potential turbulence from the space between the cabinet and the floor. Measuring only 370 x 340 x 340 mm (HxWxD) the cabinet is extremely compact despite this subwoofer's ability to go both loud and deep. It features 10 layers of PE lacquer. And in between, each layer is hand polished to ensure a deep, high gloss and elegant surface.

Who is DALI?

DALI is an acronym for 'Danish Audiophile Loudspeaker Industries. As the name suggests, DALI is a Danish company that specialises in designing, engineering and manufacturing high-end and intermediate-level audiophile speaker units. The company was founded in 1983 by a man named Peter Lyngdorf and has since expanded from the confines of Denmark, and can now be found sold all over the world as a well sought-after brand of speakers.
