Considered the crown jewel of Linn's cartridge range, the Ekstatik was produced after painstaking auditioning of different materials and configurations for the cantilever, body, suspension, windings, leads & inserts.

The Micro-Ridge stylus almost exactly matches the shape of the cutting stylus that produces the original master disc at the vinyl pressing plant. The shaft shape is similar to a Line Contact stylus, but if you zoom in on the very tip of the stylus, you will see the tiny ridges of only a few microns which are the only point making contact with the vinyl. Micro-Ridge styluses provide more accurate tracking than most other stylus types with better high-frequency retrieval and massively lower distortion than even a Fine Line or Shibata stylus.  The Micro-Ridge shape also wears more evenly, extending the stylus & Vinyl life. The sapphire cantilever used is far stiffer than the boron you find on other cartridges (such as the  Linn Kendo) resulting in less loss between the stylus and the generator.
