Capable of delivering levels of bass extension and detail normally only found in the largest of floor-standing loudspeakers, the Platinum 200 3G is capable of providing an exceptionally large soundstage from a relatively diminutive form. The new MPD III transducer and RDT III mid-range and bass driver cones have refined the overall balance of the speaker and reduced distortion, while also allowing it to deliver an exceptional room-filling performance. It also benefits from a new cast outrigger and crossover-mounted plinth assembly.

The Monitor Audio platinum range is designed to make a statement, both in its performance and style. The Platinum series comes in 3 beautiful finishes, a high-gloss Piano black, Piano ebony and pure satin white. The 200 3G floor-standing model is the more compact of the range, but don't let that fool you into thinking is a more compact sound. Utilizing 1 x MPD mkIII High-frequency transducer for remarkable detail and more accurate top-end, the 1 x 4" RDT mkIII midrange driver gives exceptional levels of clarity and finally the 2 x 6 RDT mkIII bass drivers give the speakers an exceptional level of depth and bass performance.

We've had the Monitor Audio Platinum 200s (Piano Ebony) in the store for a while now and have been thoroughly enjoying them. I recently had the chance to listen to them being driven by the Michi P5s2 Preamplifier and the S5 power amplifier with remarkable results. The Platinum 200s recommend using an amplifier between 150 and 600 watts and the Michi fits this beautifully.

The scale of sound is out of this world with exceptional balance and imaging. The midrange is open and clear and the bass is tight and impactful when needed and never woolly or over-extended. Positioning is fairly forgiving, although I did find a slight toe-in helped bring everything together. If you've got a sufficiently powerful amp and quality source these speakers are well worth a listen.

Who is Monitor Audio?

Started in 1972 by the charismatic Mo Iqbal, Monitor Audio began loudspeaker design and production using tried and tested methods available at that time - plastic cone materials, fabric dome tweeters and reflex-loaded braced cabinets. The speakers were welcomed by enthusiasts both in the UK and throughout the World.

Following a management buyout in the 1980s, over the next decade, Monitor Audio expanded its speaker ranges into stereo, surround and in-ceiling/ in-wall plus outdoor speakers to meet the needs of a more diverse, emerging market. At the same time, it embraced metal C-CAM driver technology which can respond to audio signals more faithfully than traditional materials, thanks to its inherent strength and rigidity.

The current Monitor Audio range of speakers is a very successful line-up including the entry-level Bronze range, the mid-market Silver series using C-CAM drivers, the new Gold range delivering high-end performance and lastly the Platinum II range for those buyers who do not wish to compromise sound quality.
