Project Xtension 12 Turntable

Project's Exclusive series exists to be the pinnacle of turntable excellence, providing an astonishingly accurate performance that lesser turntable brands only dream of being able to replicate. Project's Exclusive series is titled accordingly, as only specialised retailers such as ourselves are permitted to distribute these models.

Project believes that modern and classical design concepts work well in harmony with each other, even more so today than ever before. The evidence for this philosophy is clear across all industries; cars with the most state-of-the-art technology tempered with retro real wood leather interiors, it's also evident in furniture and watches. This design approach is revered because of the inherent mix of classical beauty, mixed with accurate mechanical precision and build quality, all the while retaining superior performance.

Products designed and engineered by Project in the 90s are said to have given analogue 'a new life', allowing consumers to rejuvenate their love for the quality and warmth of vinyl without needing to spend too much.

The Xtension however, exists as Pro-Ject's ode to classical analogue concepts from the eighties, while integrating this with their leading turntable technologies. After almost 20 years of manufacturing turntables at price-accessible points, the Xtension 12 is the first turntable model from ProJect to not be limited by budgetary limitations - and it shows.

The platter is constructed from a highly dense metal material, allowing the turntable to have heightened anti-resonant capabilities over acrylic models. The outdated adoption of using pure metal for turntable platters was abandoned, due to the highly resonant tendencies of this application of metal. Project discovered an ideal allow, which they then dampen on the inner side with Sorbothane. This base is combined with glued recycled vinyl records to the top, forming a perfect mat. this 'sandwich' construction is finally then precision balanced, subsequently resulting from a superlative and resonance-free, heavy turntable platter. The final product subsequently benefits from a wonderfully resonance-free, heavy platter.

The tonearm follows a similar design construct; putting anti-resonance at the forefront of its design process, and utilising similar high-mass design concepts. It's also isolated entirely from the main board of the turntable by a sheet of Sorbothane. This tonearm can still be removed and upgraded with ease, however.

Who is Project?

Project started in the hifi business designing and manufacturing affordable stereo turntables in the early 1990s, beginning with the entry-level Debut model. It was a great success, like all other turntables on the market at that time were at least  £100 more expensive, without offering a performance benefit. Project has gone on to extend the range of turntables they offer at all popular price points and performance levels, through midrange to high-end models.
