Rega Nd7 Moving Magnet Cartridge

The new high-end Nd7 moving magnet cartridge, as seen at Bristol hi-fi show in early 2024.

Details for this new cartridge are thin on the ground but it is building on the successful launch of the Nd3 and Nd5 cartridges which are now on demo in the shop.

The Nd7 aluminium cantilever is fitted with a high-precision fine-line nude diamond stylus normally only found on Rega's most expensive cartridges, the Apheta 3 and Aphelion 2. This design offers the ultimate tracking accuracy and gets the most details from the vinyl surface.

Each Nd7 MM is carefully hand-built in their custom facility in Essex by Rega's highly skilled technicians. The design utilises a completely new generator geometry with perfect symmetry to help achieve highly accurate channel balance. The Nd7 also has an optimised pole gap for superior linearity and cross-talk characteristics. The new cartridge is built with miniaturised parallel coils which are wound in-house utilising 38-micron wire with just 1275 turns. This produces a low inductance, low impedance generator giving vastly improved high-frequency response.

Neodymium is used in many moving coil designs, including Rega's own but the Nd7 is believed to be the 1st Moving magnet cartridge to utilize this. The N55 magnet is the world's most powerful commercially available magnet and makes the Nd range a very unique design. 

The finished cartridge is housed in a zero-tolerance injection moulded glass-filled polyphenylene sulphide body or PPS for short. This is an incredibly lightweight and rigid material. The low-mass body reduces the stress on the tonearms bearing and helps in free movement which helps give you more accurate playback.

Rega rebuild scheme
The unique pivot pad design of Rega cartridges improves performance by eliminating the mechanical joint between the stylus housing and the main body. This vastly improves the tracking ability and stability of the stylus. If you should damage or wear out your Rega cartridge, simply return it to us via the link above and your cartridge will be fitted with a new cantilever, stylus and pivot pad. Each rebuild is fully tested as a new cartridge would be. The rebuild price is equivalent to a replacement stylus offered by other manufacturers.
