Even though a power output of 2 x 40W into 8 ohms may not seem so high, the Rotel RA-04SE has huge current reserves thanks to it's over-sized toroidal transformer, enabling it to drive almost any speaker you might think of with ease. This amp has low distortion, wide-bandwidth circuitry giving it's sound quality a level of detail and transparency that is surprising at the price.
Not short of features either, it offers connections and switching for two pairs of loudspeakers, a MM phono input, four line inputs plus a tape loop. Bass and treble tone contols with balance are also available, as is a tone defeat button for the shortest possible signal path. Headphone users are not forgotten, the Rotel RA-04SE has a dedicated headphone amplifier with mini-jack socket on the front panel. MP3 players are catered for of course, with a 3.5mm mini jack connection on the front. Available in either black or silver finishes, this amp is an ideal centrepiece for any hifi system on a budget.
