Rear channel surround speakers are the surround speakers in a home cinema speaker system. They range in design from small satellite speakers which can be wall or stand mounted, to on wall di-pole and bi-pole speakers which can be set to give a focussed or diffuse sound field, depending on your preference. The rear channel speakers normally connect to the rear surround outputs of a multi channel Home Cinema Receiver.
Bookshelf speakers excel in producing a very good stereo image, with articulate midband and clean, clear high frequencies, ideally suited as rear surround speakers when used with a sturdy pair of speaker stands. Prices start below £100 per pair - as you spend more, the sound quality will gain in refinement, detail, sound staging and clarity. A good pair of speaker stands will cost approximately £80, and quality speaker cables will be a worthwhile investment.
