What does each DG-1S Package Include?
Every DG-1S Turntable is available as a package, with different cartridge and accessory choices, the currently available packages and their differences are shown below.
The DG-1S is Vertere's newest and best iteration of their award-winning DG-1 turntable. Each individual component is analysed and refined to bring even greater levels of detail while keeping the musicality and rhythm Vertere record players are known for.
The DG-1 is as close as you can get to plug-and-play usability from a high-end, high-performance turntable, with an outstanding amount of attention to detail in each and every component. Rather than simply replicate Vertere’s high-end turntables, just with cheaper materials, Vertere started from scratch. Using their philosophy that every component matters, systematically working through the entire turntable, from the stylus to cables, to remove any bottleneck to its performance.
The turntable starts with the motor. Vertere’s hand-tuned 24-pole Precision Synchronous motor is designed to provide smooth and stable playback with incredibly low levels of noise, thanks to its offboard power supply.
The platter is driven via a precision machined aluminium alloy pulley on the motor and a bespoke silicon rubber drive belt for smoothness and durability, while electronic speed change, via a switch to the rear of the plinth top-plate, adds to the ease of use and removes any need for belt-handling.
Like the pulley, the platter itself is also a precision-machined alloy, to the top of which is bonded a PETG record interface mat. On the underside a cork/Neoprene/nitrile bonded disc controls platter resonance. This platter rotates on a highly polished stainless steel spindle, which rides in the main bearing housing using a super precision tungsten carbide ball, avoiding the need for complex regimes of lubrication, while still retaining the smoothness of rotation essential for the accurate playback of records. Another example of the many ways Vertere have designed the DG-1 to be as simple as possible.
The ‘Groove Runner’ tonearm is perhaps the most unique-looking tonearm we’ve seen in a long time and is one of Vertere’s unique designs. Using flat beams in place of the usual tubes on most turntables. This reduces any unwanted resonances, which would usually require complicated dampening. The DG-1 uses a 3-layer non-resonant tone arm to avoid all of the problems. This simple design is shown in the tone arm wiring too, where in place of the conventional wiring, a flat PCB is sandwiched into the arm itself, to carry signal from the cartridge to the output terminals with no interruptions or degradation.
Much like the tone arm, the DG-1’s plinth is a sandwiched, non-resonant design. Using cast acrylic, with a sandwiched layer of silicon rubber isolation, all sat on a steel chassis to provide unseen levels of stability and rigidity without any unwanted resonances or vibrations. The DG-1 also comes complete with a non-resonant acrylic dust cover, where its hinges are integrated into the plinth for a sleek profile.
Who are Vertere Acoustics?
Vertere Acoustics’ ideology is simple and couldn’t be more true. It’s that any Hifi System is only as good as its weakest link. Everything, including the cables, tonearm and every part of their equipment, must be balanced and engineered with care, attention and passion, to get the absolute best from your favourite album.
Vertere engineers all of their products from the ground up, starting at the fundamentals of cutting and producing a record to get as close to the original recording as possible.
That may sound like a simple ‘less is more’ philosophy, but we prefer to look at it this way: the best audio equipment shouldn’t add anything to the original recording. Rather it should affect it as little as possible; bringing the listener ever closer to what the artist, producer and mastering engineer wanted you to hear.
Vertere Acoustics was founded by Touraj Moghaddam, designer of Roksan’s ever popular & infamous Xerxes turntable. Over the last decade, Touraj has been refining his designs to produce some of the world's finest turntables, with a frightening amount of time, effort and attention to detail put into each and every one.
